Hera Jay Brown Is UT’s Ninth Rhodes Scholar

Hera Jay Brown, who graduated from UT in August 2018, has been named a 2020 Rhodes Scholar—the ninth current or former UT student to earn this prestigious honor. As a Rhodes Scholar, Brown—a native of Corryton, Tennessee—will begin all-expenses-paid studies at the University of Oxford in England this fall. PhD Student Follows in Her Father’s Footsteps

Conny Sidi Kazungu (’19) received her PhD in political science. She is from the small village of Gotani, located on the southeastern coast of Kenya. Her father was the first in the family to attend college, supported by her grandfather, who believed education was the way of getting the family out of poverty. A generation later, Kazungu’s grandmother, who remains in the village, sold cattle to support her granddaughter’s dream of higher education. Read more about her path to UT.
